Judo Club Dubrovnik On the initiative of the late coach Željko Đapić, Judo Club Dubrovnik was founded in 1993. During the past 30 years, members of the Judo Club Dubrovnik have won numerous medals at state competitions and international judo tournaments in all categories. Athletes from the Club hold medals from World and European championships, as well as Grand Slams and Grand Prix competitions. Željko Đapić initiated and organized numerous international judo competitions, from which the organization of the Dubrovnik Open International Judo Tournament, which has traditionally been held in Dubrovnik for over twenty years and promotes the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, especially stands out.
For his achievements, he was declared the best coach of the City of Dubrovnik in 2014 and 2015 and the best coach of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County in 2015. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Sports Community of Dubrovnik-Neretva County in 2022, and was posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Croatian Judo Association for the development of judo in the Republic of Croatia.
Today, Judo Club Dubrovnik has over 100 members divided into several age categories, ranging from the youngest judokas who are 4 years old to seniors. Continuing the path started by coach Željko Đapić, the Club steadfastly directs young people to sports, while promoting the values provided by judo.
