Founding and Evolution

– Foundation: Established in 2011 as a spin-off from the Diving Club Geronimo’s finswimming section, Komet Finswimming Team has become a leading figure in Zagreb, Croatia, and internationally.
– Achievements: Highlighted by their victory at the 2016 Croatian National Championship for Clubs and individual successes, including a world silver medal by Kristijan Tomić at the World Finswimming Championship 2016.

Leadership and Team Composition
– Guidance: Under the expert direction of Coach Rubes Levada, a founding member and club president, Komet has grown to a diverse team of 20+ athletes from various countries and ages, showcasing the team’s inclusive and international nature.

International Engagement and Development Initiatives
– Global Outreach: Organized international bootcamps since 2013 in Spain, Tunisia, Tanzania, Kenya, Algeria, Bosnia and the most recent Kosovo (January 2024), emphasizing their global presence and commitment to the sport’s development.
– Sport Development: Instrumental in founding finswimming federations in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Romania, significantly contributing to the sport’s growth on an international scale.
National Initiatives and Community Engagement
– Arcobaleno 2013: Collaborated with local sports clubs, supported by funding from the Croatian Electric Company (HEP), to promote an interdisciplinary sports culture among youth.
– Zagreb Finswimming Saturdays (2011-2015): Engaged in sports-centric activities, including seminars and championships, supported by the Office for Sport of the City of Zagreb, fostering a vibrant finswimming community.

Erasmus+ Sport Projects
– Leadership in Dual Career Education: Led SSCP projects ‘Aurora’ and ‘Aurora Adriatic,’ focusing on dual careers and informal education.
– Partnerships: Engaged in projects SCP ‘EHPARP – Enhancing Healthy Physical Activity Rates through modern Pentathlon’, SSCP ‘Spot – Networking with sport stakeholders,’ and ‘Inclusion through Sport’.
– Current Initiatives: “Mermaids for Inclusion” project underlines finswimming potential in raising awareness about inclusion, as part of the Erasmus programme’s Capacity Building in the Western Balkans for 2023-2024.

Affiliations and Collaborations
Local and International Ties: Member of the Croatian Diving Federation (HRS) and maintains international connections through the CMAS – World Underwater Activities Federation.
– Spin-off Club: Finswimming Team Novi Jelkovec, active in Erasmus+ projects and currently partnering with the Swedish club Sharks for a SSCP ‘Water Sports Festival’ and with Italian sport organisation ASI Marche for a SSCP ‘WIN – What Women Need’.
