What is the purpose of
C Zero Sport Clubs Projects?
The ‘Carbon Neutral Sports Clubs Network’ (C ZERO SPORT CLUBS) project encourages small sports clubs operating in Europe to take action and develop a sustainable understanding of climate action. Sports clubs have to encourage an environmentally compatible management approach by including digital tools and take responsibility for the environment because it is essential for local sports clubs to carry out their local activities outside of sports and to gain the support of society by developing environmentalist behaviors.
The project was designed to create a “Carbon Neutral Sport Clubs Network.” The presented document, A Climate Footprint Measurement Program, is developed to guide sports clubs in enforcing environmental activities and will be applied by project partner sports clubs. After the sports clubs’ implementation as pilot activity, this program will be turned into a Carbon Footprint Measurement Application to be used by more sports clubs. At the same time, “Carbon Neutral Sport Club Network” will be created, and it will be mandatory to use this developed application. By developing the Network, the Carbon Footprint Measurement will be promoted and aimed to include more and more sports clubs and, subsequently, NGOS in this Network. In this way, sports clubs will carry out the responsibility to fight against climate change.
The Climate Footprint Measurement Program
The Climate Footprint Measurement Program aims to help shorten the inevitable learning curve by providing sports clubs with detailed guidance on implementing environmental activities in their sports clubs (to club members, athletes, and fans). The program includes the values a sports club should have regarding an environmentalist approach: what kind of activities the sports clubs will arrange, which materials they will use, if they will plant a tree, what its value for the environment, etc.
Carbon Neutral Sport Clubs Network
This program is an evaluation program of the sports clubs' governance and activities, and it will help the sports clubs to observe and evaluate themselves regarding the environmentalist approach and an encouraging/motivating program for environmentalist activities.
C Zero Sport Clubs project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Commission.
